If you book direct you generally only pay a deposit of one night where as with most of the online agents you have to pay for the whole stay at the time of booking.
The hotels (MGM Mirage at least) guarantee that the rate booked directly with them is the cheapest that you can get, if you can get a cheaper rate elsewhere many properties will give you some form of compensation.
You can cancel your booking with no penalty up to 48 hours before arrival.
If the rate on the website goes down you can call or email them an they will adjust your rate, if the rate goes up you will still pay the lower rate.
If you book directly you are more likely to be able to get a free upgrade or part of your room comped, if you book through an agent then you will not ever get any part of what you have paid them comped.
